A Message from the Delaware Interscholastic Athletic Association,
The Delaware Interscholastic Athletic Association (DIAA) joins with all student-athletes, coaches, officials, member schools and families in our state in combatting the spread of Coronavirus (COVID-19). Although regular school attendance and interscholastic athletics have been precluded since March 13, we acknowledge the dedication and willingness of our member schools, student-athletes, coaches, and officials to participate and compete in this time of school closure.
In acknowledgement of the sacrifice of our student-athletes, coaches, teams, and officials; the DIAA asks that all member schools and all other athletic facilities in the State of Delaware join us in a moment to let all interscholastic student-athletes, coaches, officials, and families know that we recognize their dedication, commitment, and willingness to compete during this time of school closure.
On Friday April 24, 2020, we are asking all outdoor athletics facilities in the State of Delaware to operate their stadium and facility lights at 8:00PM for 20 minutes and 20 seconds as a sign of support to interscholastic athletics. This is particularly important for our high school seniors, the class of 2020, who have had their senior seasons impacted by the Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.
This joint effort will show how adults acknowledge our students’ “reason why” they compete in interscholastic athletics. #MyReasonWhy
We will get through this together!
Dr. Bradley H. Layfield
DIAA Board of Directors Chairman
